How to raise money?

So sorry I have not really been updating lately. I am still laid up with the back. I am calling the doctor tomorrow since the steroids do not seem to be doing very much. I can't sit too long st the computer, I so wish I had a lap top. I am going crazy just laying on the couch!

Anyway while I have been lying there I have been trying to come up with ways to raise some money. I need to figure out how to get a new car this year since my lease is up and I need to come up with money for IVF. So I am asking you my dear internets...what ways have you used, if any, to help finance your IVF? I thought about doing a craft... which one would be the best? I feel I can learn to do just about anything. I think I would like to make jewelry but it seems everyone is doing jewelry. Anyone have any suggestions? I would really appreciate any input. I hope all is well and thank you for the well wishes.

I'm sorry I don't have any IVF-fund advice (other than maybe a coffee can and a Will Work for Baby sign?) but I wanted to wish you luck and thanks for checking out my blog.

Here's to a magic pile of money just showing up on your doorstep--or a least a free car!

I'm sorry, I don't have any ideas - But I'd love to hear what others come up with! I've ofteh had these same thoughts. . . the financial side of IF sure does add insult to injury, doesn't it?

You could create cause greeting cards and sell them in bundles of five or so. There may be more of us out here who still use snail mail than you think!

Absolutely no advice for the saving money for IVF. Other than don't use my method which was credit, credit and some more credit. I think I'll be paying it off for quite a while.
Hope the doc has something useful to do about your back.

Gosh, I can't think of anything at this moment. Perhaps perusing arount etsy.com to see what other people are doing might inspire you to find something that could work for you. I wish you the best of luck with that and with a speedy recovery with your back!

Thanks for your comment. We have cut out as much as we can to save for IVF. I also got a part time job, I hate it, but I figure it will be worth it in the end. Good luck with saving for IVF.

I don't have any brilliant ideas on saving... cutting your monthly expenditures, of course... a garage sale (maybe friends/family will donate some items for you to sell)... what sort of interests or hobbies do you have? Something that springs from a natural talent will be most effective.

So sorry that you're having so much back pain...I know how miserable that is. Have you considered applying for an IVF scholarship through INCIID? (there's a link on my blog page) I don't know much about the program, but it's worth a shot!

Thanks for visiting my blog, btw, I'm returning the favor!

I don't know anything about raising money for IVF, but if you want to make money from a craft maybe try t-shirt designs. You are a very witty person and I'm sure your shirts would be great.

i haven't read through the other comments yet, but yarn crafts are great. Learn to knit or crochet if you dont already know, and make baby blankets or just any blankets and sell them to people. I LOVE making blankets---if you get any kind of good at it, it can go really fast (especially with thicker needles....) but i've met women who sell them for up to $50 depending on the intricacy and time/money spent on materials. Just an idea!

No $$ suggestions, although I like the coffee can and a Will Work for Baby sign idea.

Sorry about your back. Hope you get relief soon.

Hi and thanks for leaving a comment on my blog, especially when you are laid up with a bad back!

I am totally un-crafty but will tell you something that I would love to buy: organic canned tomatoes and other veggies. I keep telling myself I will plant a garden and learn to can but never do and every winter I want fresh, local veggies and have to go without or buy stuff that's been trucked in. If you have this skill I am pretty sure people would take you up on it. Or classes to teach people how to do it...

ICLW. Thanks for visiting me. Sometimes I feel like a total cow for not feeling joyous, but IF can warp you. As for IVF funding, if you're a crafty woman, maybe you could join a farmer's market or make items for Resolve members.

My solution has been (a) to take on an additional job and (b) to get new insurance that covers IVF.

Ideally a and b would have occurred together, but I did/am doing them separately.

Hope your back recovers quickly!

Honestly, I don't think that raising a little money selling crafts will get you very far with covering IVF. Have you considered a low interest health care loan?

I don't really have any craft ideas, but maybe having a garage sale or doing something like Pampered Chef would make some extra mula.

Good Luck!!

Thanks for your nice comment on my blog (I'm loving ICLW!).

When we were saving for our fresh IVF cycle, we started by cutting out every expense that wasn't necessary. We kept our cell phones and netflix. No home phone, no cable, one car, no movies, no eating out. Well, except for when we were going stir-crazy. That was how we paid for the meds. For the IVF itself, we refinanced our house.

For each of the frozen cycles by cutting out those things I listed above, we timed it out so we could save the $3k ahead of time to pay for a cycle, then waited again until we saved the money for the next cycle.

We also specifically asked for money instead of presents for birthdays and Christmas. We hated doing it, felt very insenstive, but our families understood... and every little bit helped!

As far as crafting, I'm considering doing this for our adoption. Find something you're good at making, something you can make relatively quickly, and sell it online on etsy at a reasonable price... if you mention the money goes towards treatments, maybe you can ask for a little more.

Sorry for the novel. I hope it helps!

Sorry your back is hurting so much. I wish you a quick and painless recovery!

I, too, wrestle with how to pay off our debt and save money for treatments. Because of the economy, my career is at a standstill. So, I can emphasize. VERY frustrating.

Hang in there.
